Coffee Date:: May 30, 2014

Hello friends! How are you? It's been such a sort week! I loved having the day with my family because of the long weekend and holiday. Even though we didn't do a whole lot it was just nice to have the day to sit and be lazy.

Donuts may have been involved.

Mmmkay!

Now, it's your turn... how was your weekend?

Homemade Taco Seasoning

homemadetacoseasoning.jpg

I love making my own sauces and seasonings. A friend of mine shared her recipe for homemade taco seasoning with me a while ago. It's so good, and I've used it on more than just Mexican dishes. Full of lots of flavors and you probably already have these spices in your pantry.

I keep mine in an air tight glass container stored in my pantry. Here's how you can make your own,

HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING

6 Tablespoons of chili powder

5 teaspoons of paprika

4.5 teaspoons of cumin

2.5 teaspoons onion powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

When I was a new mom there were so many items that I forgot to have in my bag, or forgot to replace once it was out. When Ava was just a few months old I went out to a restaurant and she had a major poop accident. I ran to the bathroom to change her and to my surprise I didn't have a backup outfit in the diaper bag. I was mortified as I used a million wipes to clean up the mess and make her presentable to go back to the table.

It was then that I learned my lesson to replace outfits and remember to restock the bag! Now, I pack my "mommy bag" to the gills and plan for the unexpected. Here's a little peek inside my bag;

First I use and oversized handbag. I don't like carrying a purse and I diaper bag it's just to much for me so I used one bag for it all.

I carry all the essentials diapers, wipes, a small zipped plastic bag filled with sanitizer, extra pacis, and a bib. Snack cup, and not pictured an extra outfit.

For Me, I carry my planner, wallet, gum. Pen and a pencil, and my car keys.

In a smaller vinyl lined zippered pouch (easy to clean) I carry lip gloss, more sanitizer, and hair ties.

It's not just babies and kids that are accident prone, it's Mommies sometimes too. To make sure I stay "accident" free I always carry a few U by Kotex pads in my purse. Kotex is a brand I trust and have used for years, so it's a natural choice for me.

Ava and I had a little shopping trip to Kmart for shoes this weekend and picked up mommy bag necessities. Plus, you know I'm a saver so I used my 'Shop Your Way' rewards card to save $3. Not a member? Join here.

I throw it all in the bag, and I'm ready for a complete day of errands, play dates and feeling totally prepared.

Gimme A Cute Mug!

I love a good cup of coffee. Even more I love a cute mug to put it in. If there's anything I collect in this world it's probably coffee mugs. My kitchen has a few cute mugs in it and I can't resist ones that have a cute monogram or a fun saying on it! Today I've rounded up a few of the cutest mugs on the block.

Perfect for gift giving or for giving yourself!

Do you have a favorite coffee mug you drink in? Where's it from?

5 Ways to Save on Kids Clothing

fivewaystosaveonkidsclothing.jpg
1. Buy out of Season
This is one of my favorite ways to save on clothing. End of the season sales are the best for scooping up swimsuits for next year, boots for the winter and much more. Make a list of items that you are looking for and always have it handy for when the end of the season is near you can get those items at a great price!
2. Shop second hand, Garage Sales and Consignment
I always have great luck when I shop garage sales. I don't go often, but when I do I look for things that are in good condition or I don't buy them. This is also a great place to get clothing that you don't mind your kids playing in or getting dirty. I always buy my kids winter stuff from these places since we don't use it year round and only when we visit Iowa during holidays it doesn't make sense to buy "new" every year.
3. Shop Sales & Clearance Racks
Can I tell you something? I don't buy a single thing for my children that isn't already on sale or that I don't have a coupon for! Why? Because the very next week it'll be on sale, so why buy it if it's not?! Places like Old Navy, Gap, The Children's Place and many other kids clothing stores are always running sales. Sign up for their email lists and get coupons emailed to you that you can use as well.
4. Trade with Family & Friends
This is great if you have nieces & nephews, friend's kids that are older than yours that you can swap with. Have a big swapping party and trade clothing with friends and family. When you're done with it give it back to be used again or donate them.
5. Shop Unexpected Places
I always love finding deals in unexpected places. Couple weeks back I was at Tuesday Morning, which is a discount home store and way in the back were some racks of clothing for kids. I ended up finding some great items in that rack. My tip, don't be afraid to check out the whole store and see what they have to offer. You just might find some great deals.
