Create A HappiMess in Your Lives.

I saw a quote on Pinterest once that said; "Please excuse the mess, the children are busy making memories." I love this quote for so many reasons, but I know for a lot of Moms the idea of having to have a clean house all the time, and everything put together is just not realistic to our lives.

Instead of thinking we have to have it all together, what if we embraced the #HappiMess in our lives and realized that it's ok to have things a little out of order.

When my kids get messy when playing I have learned that "they wash up well" and it's ok. They are having fun in the moment, living life and we're making memories together.

Delta has a pretty fantastic line of faucets and products using their  Touch2O ®  technology, where you can tap easily on any party of the faucet when you're hands are messy or aren't free and wash up easily. Turing those messes into a #HappiMess making clean up a snap!

I've partnered with Delta and I'm excited to embrace our #HappiMess around our home using their innovative products!

Like many of you our kitchen is the heart of the home. Our kitchen is considered an "eat in" kitchen with it being open and flowing right into the dining room. That kitchen island right there is one of our favorite places to congregate. In the mornings we eat breakfast there, the kids both sit on the stools and eat and watch cartoons while eating. We're back and forth all day long making meals, doing school work at the table and sometimes having races in the kitchen.

Share your stories using the #HappiMess and #DeltaFaucet hashtags on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and be entered to win a prize package worth $2400!

“Why do people treat mess like it’s a bad thing? It’s actually the evidence of a life well lived. When you’re out there making, creating, doing and playing, embrace your #HappiMess and let Delta kitchen and bath innovations help clean up so you can do it all again tomorrow.”

Helping Kids Feel Comfortable with Immunizations, Give a Shot Get a Shot.

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #collectivebias

Getting immunizations and shots can be scary for any kid. Since Ava is now at the age where she knows what's going on and going to happen one of the things we like to do at home before we go to get immunizations is talk to her first. We remind her several times days before about what's going to happen.

Another thing we like to do is have her practice "giving shots" to her little brother and stuffed animals. We make a fun game out of it, and let her play the Doctor role.

A quick stop at Walgreens for a thermometer, band-aids and a medicine dropper to act as our shot and we had all the props for this fun game!

Walgreens is an easy stop for back to school goodies, but with their on site clinics it's also an easy choice for back to school immunizations too! No appointments needed, and most insurance plans are accepted.

Walgreens has partnered with United Nation Foundations Shot@Life Campaign to provide immunizations to school age children (7 and older) in need. When you get a shot at Walgreens, they will then provide a shot for those children. These immunizations help protect children from illnesses like whooping cough and meningitis.

Get a shot, #Giveashot

My First Experience with Chalk Paint {A Cabinet Makeover}

My Grandmother gave me this china cabinet when they moved here last year. It's been sitting in my garage since November, just waiting for me to decide what I wanted to do with it. It's an oak cabinet, I knew that I didn't want to take a bunch of time sanding and priming it. I decided to try out chalk paint for the very first time. I've never used it before but it gets glowing raves + reviews from everyone I know that's ever used it.

When I attended an anniversary sale at a local gift shop they were selling Annie Sloan chalk paint for 10% off that day, I decided to cross my fingers and hope it'd turn out well. I bought some that day and was excited to start working on my cabinet.

Here's some before pics of the cabinet, it has nasty brass hardware on the doors that I'm going to replace with some fun new knobs.

With chalk paint there's no sanding or priming required. I kinda loved this because really who wants to spend a lot of time doing that if there's a different way? For my cabinet all I did was wipe it down with a dry cloth, making sure there wasn't any dust or dirt on it since it'd been sitting in my garage for a while.

Next I taped newspaper over the glass in the doors so I didn't get paint on it. I didn't remove the doors to paint either, I just used a smaller paint brush to go around the hinges. I also used painters tape to tape around them making sure I didn't get paint on the hardware.

I did take off the brass knobs, since I wasn't going to be putting those back on.

I used a regular paint brush, I didn't buy the Annie Sloan brushes. Just used one I got at Lowes.

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey and the soft wax.

Here's the after:

knobs: Hobby Lobby

Print: Lindsay Letters via Hobby Lobby

Topiaries: Target

I love how it turned out, and I love filling it with my vintage dishes and some serving pieces. Using chalk paint was so easy, it covers so well. I did two coats on everything. I can't wait to try this again on other furniture, and even contemplating using it on my kitchen island.

Have you used Annie Sloan chalk paint before? Any tips or thoughts to share?

Keeping A Family Calendar

I'm all about calendars over here! I have a day planner that I keep a monthly/weekly schedule in, I also keep yearly birthdays and anniversaries in my phone. We also keep a monthly family calendar and hang it on the fridge.

My husband does not keep a personal calendar so much, so the monthly calendar is more so for him to take a quick peek at when he's got questions about what's going on that month.

Now that my daughter is officially in school this is a place where I put all her school parties, events and breaks.

What else goes on the family calendar?

Church events/commitments.

Parties/Events.

Family birthdays.

Vacations/ PTO Days.

Paydays, HOA Meetings, Bulk Trash Day.

I used my favorite Sharpie fine point pens to add stuff to the calendar.

I also used some fun washi tape to mark all of the school events for quicker reference. Another color of washi tape for family vacations and events.

The calendar I used is one from The TomKat Studio. It's an awesome monthly calendar she makes available for free every year. Download yours here.

After I'm done marking it all up and getting it good and messy I just hang it on the side of my fridge with a binder clip! Simple and easy.

I love having it handy to write things down as I need to.

Do you keep a family calendar too? What organization tips do you use? I'd love to hear them in the comments below.
